Great site seeing. Has a foot bath which you can enjoy.
Beppu is one of Japan’s most famous hot spring resorts with the largest volume of hot water in the world apart from Yellowstone in the United States and the largest number of hot spring sources in Japan. Beppu contains 9 spectacular hot springs, which are sometimes referred to as the “nine hells of Beppu”, and are for viewing rather than bathing. The most photogenic of the nine hells is the “Blood Pond Hell” featuring a pond of hot, red water.
Nothing special. You can see the same red colour 'hell' at Kamado Jigoku. Feels kinda like a tourist trap since we gotta drive all the way from the main area.
Was definitely not blood red. The water itself is clear, just the clay on the bottom is red. As someone else mentioned the rest is grey.To be honest, this just reminded me of a pothole on a dirt road in Australia 😂 but power to them for their photo editing skills. The blue and mud hells were much more interesting.
One of the 7 hells of Beppu, but some way (2 km) from the others. Probably the most photogenic, as the clay colours the lake red. If you can't face viewing all 7 hells, this and the geyser nearby are the best. Others are very touristy.
One of a kind sight and view! I never seen a red lake before in my life and boy it was beautiful! I would do the beppu hells tour! Took me 4hrs to complete but it was worth the sights!
Interesting ways hot springs has affect on nature
This is a very special place. The hot springs is in red. It is so amazing. So, that why they call the hot springs as "hell". There are 8 in total. It takes around half day to walk around. It is so interesting. Agreed as National Scenic Beauties of Japan.
Kyushu is not well connected for seeing few off places....But there is a daily pass for visiting attractions in beppu ... As of 7 hells it's definitely worth a watch Would take 3 to 4 hours if seen casually ...It's divided into two hells 5 +2 ... would require bus travel to connect those...
Hot spring in RED, interesting!
Great views, but small and can be done in 5 minutes. You pay 400 yen and mostly end in a souvenir shop. Still, pretty unique!
Red hell terrifying varieties fun
Worth visiting very beautiful place and naturan wonder!
There was so amazing place. But there was one thing made me disappointed that there was lots of smoking people in front of the gate. As non smoking person, it made me can't sightseeing for long.
It's nice...😁🤣
free parking but limitedthere is free footbath inside when you enter after buy entrance ticket
Unless you bought the 2000 yen pass for all of the Jikoku meguri places, not really that much to be missed out here. The hot spring is a thing of beauty looking from ground level and above. However, there is just a gift shop and the blood-like hot spring. For 400 Yen and being quite far from the other places, i’d say unless you want to take the bus (200 Yen each way) or taxi (1600 yen for up to 4 people) best stick to the ones in walking distance.
One of the must do places if you are in Beppu for any length of time!
It is a bit small, the other hells are more interesting.
Smell of sulphur nut good view
Loved the hot steamy mineral springs - the blood springs because of the colour of the waters❤
Looks good. Although a little bit far from the other 5 hells of Beppu, it's easy to come by driving. There is a large car-park outside as well.
A bit further than the rest of the hot springs. The water looks like blood. Stunning!
Unique Jigoku. Has footbath and a nice shop. A bit far from the other ones but worth a visit if you have a car. The geyser Jigoku is right beside this place too.
To me... so so because I expected the pond to be much bigger. Cheers
Great spot on the tour the red clay hotspring is really charming.
Naturally red lake. It has good scenery, decent shopping, and a foot bath! I recommend trying the red hot spring cooked pudding.
Just like a real blood pool
Nice place to stop by
One of the several "hells" in Beppu.Really interesting to view the blood red water, and there's a warm footbath opposite to rest your weary legs.Shop has a wide range of souvenirs and other merchandise.
The water is not that red compared to the picture. Maybe the color would change with the season.
More like a pale brick color than the bright red in the photos... and half the lake is grey....
One of the smaller jigoku and felt really touristy as they make you walk through the souvenir shop before reaching the actual jigoku. Also, the foot bath there had room temperature water, which was quite disappointing.
Nice place to visit.
Staffs were polite & helpful
Nicely managed to enrich geological knowledge but the entrance fee is too expensive
It wonderful time to rest in japan
Red boiling pond, the first out of 7 we’ve invaded, spectacularly unleashed the heavy smoke which yielded in stunning scene. Gotta admit we quite enjoyed it here ♨️
Kitsch warning! Not much to do except look and buy. Yet somehow fun too....
Red colored hot springs. Not very crowded in the morning, you can climb up the stairs for a better view
Interesting to see.....wasn't as red as expected. More of a mud brown. Nothing else to see in here after entry. Only this.
Nice place and limited free parking
This place is different from other Jigokus, since the water is red. It's a good place to check in or if you are collecting the Jigokus 'stamp'. Not that much spots to take the photo. You can quickly visit here and go to the next Jigoku.
It was ok, but not fantastic, and the size of the hell pool is pretty small and the water is not as red as they said it to be. The location is also far from the other main hell pools. If you have limited time to visit all the hells, this is one that you can skip. There is a foot path onsen area, but the water is not hot enough.
Seems like real blood
Light red pool, not as great as the side pool at Sea Hell
It’s a popular sightseeing place if you visit Beppu. The high content of iron in the hot spring makes the pond red. Next to the entrance of the pond, the wisteria bloom.
2nd times been here. still feel amazing
I went to this place twice, in summer and winter. It is such a good place. The toilet is quite clean. It is have only one jigoku, but big. They sell souvenir and food.
Unique and fun to see different type of onsen
